One of the great things about being in this part of the world is all of the traveling we
normally would never have done.
We've been able to see and experience a whole new world in the short time we've been in KL.
Next week we get to go on our first mammoth trip,
 China!

I've always wanted to go, for the obvious reasons, cheap wares and knock off designer labels.
Ha! totally kidding.
I'm of course excited about the food.
We've gotten great recommendations on where to eat and what to see from
friends who have visited in the past.

The kids have been studying up on all the main attractions and are so excited to be able to see them all in person.
The Great Wall and the Terracotta army being on the top of their list.
We are hitting Beijing and Xian this time around.
With the hopes of going back again maybe next year to see the rest of what the country has to offer.

Have you ever been? Any recommendations?

  2. I used to live in Xi'an. The Muslim quarter has great shopping and I think the food in Xi'an is hands down the best in China. If you get a chance, ride tandem bikes around the city wall, get a foot massage (the massage your head and shoulders too!), and eat meat on a stick.

I've been to Beijing about a dozen times. The pearl market is great. That's where you'll find your "designer" shoes and handbags, as well as pearls, of course. A mistake I see a lot of people making there is that while bargaining, they will counter offer half the quoted price and negotiate from there. The problem is the vendors know that and half the initial asking price is still way more than market value. Start way low in your haggling. Also, you'll get better prices if you look poor while shopping. No makeup and shabby clothes will get you deals.
